ARTS & CRAFTS COLLECTION

THE ARTS & CRAFTS COLLECTION

Here more formalised elements of design are incorporated, reflecting the simple, flowing lines and shapes favoured by the Arts & Craft Movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A key consideration is Owen Jones’ principles to avoid "novelty without beauty, or beauty without intelligence”.

Respect for the material and the integrity of the natural patterns and characteristics of the wood is a key consideration. This is complemented by the designs, shapes and proportions that inspired pottery, furniture and jewellery of the movement, themselves often drawn from ancient Chinese and Japanese pottery, motifs from nature and the vernacular, or lines suggested by the universal proportions of the Golden Ratio.
